Odense
2001 Workshop a Successful Milestone for IPMN One of the most successful
IPMN events ever held took place at the University of Southern Denmark
in Odense July 18-20. This biennial IPMN Workshop was a huge success
both intellectually and socially due in no small measure to the
meticulous planning and execution of our host Professor Kurt Klaudi
Klausen, Director of the Public Management Programs at USD, Odense.
The Workshop program and papers may be viewed on the IPMN website
(www.inpuma.net). The format
for this Workshop was new for IPMN in that only one paper was presented
and the rest of the time was spent actually working - in this instance
developing alternative public management program curricula in small
working groups, presenting the models to the entire group of approximately
thirty participants, and engaging in dialogue about the alternatives
and what we learned from the exercise in constructing the models.
In addition, the group ate at fine restaurants, visited a number
of fascinating and beautiful Danish castles, saw the graveyard where
Elvira Madigan is buried (under a magnificent Danish oak tree) and
concluded the event with a lavish formal banquet. The group ended
the evening and event drinking wine, singing, smoking Cuban cigars
(well, some of us did) into the night. This was an event that all
who attended will remember. And Professor Klausen actually brought
the Workshop in under budget (typically Danish) so that we have
funds left to support our next conference in Siena, Italy in June,
2002. As Workshop rapporteur Sandford Borins, University of Toronto,
put it in his closing remarks, this event was, indeed, representative
of IPMN events as "The Leisure of the Theory Class." IPMN
Conference in Siena, Italy June 2002 For those interested in sending
proposals for the Siena 2002 conference, please see the call for
papers in IPMN Newsletter Number 1, 2001 on the IPMN website (address
above). In this regard, please note that proposals should be sent
to Riccardo Mussari (mussari@uinsi.it)
and to Kuno Schedler (KunoSchedler@unisg.ch)
as the chairs of this event. The call for papers issued in Newsletter
Number 1, 2001 requested that proposal be sent to Riccardo Mussari
and to Larry Jones. However, Kuno Schedler has replaced Jones as
co-chair of this conference. Additionally, a revised call for papers
will be sent out on the IPMN list server soon. Request for Manuscript
Submissions The editors of IPMN's two journals continue to seek
manuscripts for publication review. Please send manuscripts (electronically
as e-mail attachments in Word) for the International Public Management
Journal to Fred Thompson, Editor at fthompso@willamette.edu.
For the International Public Management Review (e-journal) please
send manuscripts to L. R. Jones, Editor at Dukedmb@aol.com.
IPMJ
is published semiannually (soon to be tri-annually and quarterly)
by Oxford-Elsevier Press in hardcopy and mailed to IPMN members
and institutional subscribers. IPMR may be viewed on the IPMN website.
Both journals use double blind, peer review processes for determination
of what will be published. The editorial policies of the journals,
instructions for preparation of manuscripts and other pertinent
information for authors are provided on the IPMN website.
Finally,
if you have news items for this quarterly newsletter, e.g., to provide
notice of events to come, about new websites to visit or any other
information you think may be of interest to IPMN members, please
send such to me for the next newsletter.
Best
Regards, Larry Jones IPMN Coordinator
